At this time the Chief of Police was known by a number of titles (Head Constable, Inspector of Police, Superintendent etc.,) The borough force existed from 1837 to 1889 when a large number of smaller borough's were absorbed in the larger county forces. George led the force until 1872. I hope this helps, I am researching the small borough forces and would appreciate any information, photo's etc I have collected insignia for 35 years and may be able to provide some nice photo's of Newport & Ryde badges.
