Hello Margaret,

John BEATTIE was not a "Parkhurst Boy" but an "Exile" who was transported aboard the "Bangalore" to Moreton Bay. If you try the Keyname Search on
 http://www.records.nsw.gov.au/state-archives/indexes-online
it may be helpful in tracing his convict history before transportation.....he was sentenced at Lancaster in July 1847.

For the moment

John Beattie aged 18 was sentenced to 'transportation' July 1847 at Kirkdale, Liverpool. He did not sail for Moreton Bay, Queensland, australia until Jan 1850. I have his records but no where does it say he was held on a Hulk. In trying to ascertain where he was held for those couple years I have contacted the National Archives, who were extremely helpful - but of course - I would have to go there to do research. I notice his name is not among the boys at Parkhurst.
Appreciate any suggestions.
