Coastguard Cottages
The old Coastguard Watchtower overlooking Bembridge harbour and St. Helens.
photo taken Aug 2004 by my daughter Hazel
and used with her kind permission.
Situated on the front facing the Solent just across from the beach. One can see
the view right along the southern coast of the mainland from this point.
This road leads along the Duver to the village of Seaview. (photo taken July 2004)
Built as a coastguard station in 2 rows of two with others added at a later date to house
the Chief Officer commanding. The cottages were originally close to the beach before the
Esplanade was built. The men were housed closeby in Clay Lane and Nelson Lane.
Owing to the sprawling nature of the town Ryde had its own mounted coastguard. (Photo taken 2008)
