Born in Oxford 1826, son of William and Sarah Barrett.  He married Rebecca Panting at Oddington and after having two sons at Bicester they came to the Isle of Wight for the start of the building of the IW Railways. William was a coppersmith & brazier, then becoming a whitesmith.
