03/08/1918 .. MUSIC & DANCING LICENCE – An application for a music and dancing licence for Yelf’s Hotel, Union-street, Ryde, came before the Borough Bench on Monday, the magistrates sitting being the Mayor (Alderman John I. BARTON), Messrs. H. H. POLLARD, Percy THELLUSON, and W. R. TAYLOR.  It was stated that the hotel was owned by the Home Counties Public House Trust, and the object of the application was to enable the proprietors to give high class music in the lounges of the hotel—particularly during meals.  The ladies constituting the orchestra were all members of the Royal College of Music and the music given would be high class.  The Chief Constable (Mr. C. GREENSTREET) said the police raised no objection, and, after a somewhat lengthy consultation, the application was granted.  (IW Observer)
