Leading Boatman A. Harding

 

Arthur Harding, a coastguard at Bembridge, Isle of Wight and Guernsey.  Born at Stoke Poges, he married a local Isle of Wight girl, Mary Ann Etheridge.  He was a regular lifeboat-man at Bembridge, a roll that was also carried out by his brother-in-law and father-in-law.  Arthur died at Portland in Dorset and is commemorated at the Portland Royal Naval Cemetery.  The memorial reads: Leading Boatman Arthur Harding, PO/161128 H.M. Coastguard R.N. died 2nd August 1919.
